Co-Wear: Functional Fashion Co-Creation Method with People with Disabilities Enables the Development of Functional and Inclusive Fashion Garments

Image
CURRENT TRENDS IN FASHION TECHNOLOGY & TEXTILE ENGINEERING - JUNIPER PUBLISHERS Abstract The Brazilian population is composed of 23.9% of people with disabilities. These citizens live in search of equal rights, possibilities and opportunities in relation to others. Designers can collaborate developing products that fit the body, needs and skills of this population, promoting autonomy, independence and quality of life. Fashion is a daily use product that can be designed to assist disabled users and their caregivers in the act of dressing and undressing. Co-Wear: Functional Fashion Co-creation Method was developed to bring together designers and people with disabilities in the development of functional and inclusive clothing. This work aimed at the application of the method with nine people with disabilities, developing a piece for each one and evaluating the usability of these products. Participants began to dress more independently, and those with total dependence were dresse...

Synthesis and Optical Properties of Near-Infrared (NIR) Absorbing Azo Dyes

Image
CURRENT TRENDS IN FASHION TECHNOLOGY & TEXTILE ENGINEERING -  JUNIPER PUBLISHERS Abstract In this work, we have developed an efficient and simple protocol for the synthesis of novel A-π-D-π-A NIR azo dyes. The near infrared absorbing azo dyes were synthesized by using 2-hydroxy-1, 4 naphthoquinone (Lawsone) and different substituted aromatic primary amines. Furthermore, author developed push-pull chromophores of A-π-D-π-A type containing an electron-withdrawing azo core, phenazine moieties, and a hydroxyl group as electron donor. The benzo [a] quinoxalino [2,3-i] phenazin-5-ol moiety was introduced to make the system planer as well as to increase the π-conjugation. The optical properties of these dyes were studied in N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF). Keywords:  NIR Absorbing azo dyes; 2-hydroxy-1; 4 Naphthoquinone; Lawsone; Optical properties; Phenazine core Introduction In 1856, William Henry Perkin accidentally discovered the world’s first commercially successful synt...

Silk Fibroin and its Application in Tissue Engineering - Juniper Publishers

Image
Journal of Fashion Technology -  Juniper publishers Abstract Due to the special luster, good air permeability and moisture permeability, comfortable wearing, delicate and smooth feel, silk fiber is wildly used in textiles. Recently, with the careful study of the composition, microstructure and physicochemical properties of silk, the application of silk has gradually extended to food, biomedicine, industrial raw materials, environmental protection and other fields. This paper gives one short introduction of silk’s application in tissue engineering. Keywords:  Silk worm; Silk fiber; Silk fibroin; Tissue engineering Go to Introduction Silk industry is an important support of national economy in China. Recently, silk is affected by reduction of farmland, shortage of labor, and low added value of the products. Developing the versatile silk industry and increasing the added value of silk are the ways to achieve the transformation, upgrading and sustainabl...

Chitosan Application in Textile Processing - Juniper Publishers

Image
Journal of Fashion Technology -  Juniper publishers Keywords Keywords:  Chitosan; Textile processing; Antibacterial finishing; Anti-wrinkle finishing; Dyeing; Antistatic finishing Go to Introduction Traditional textile products from fibres such as wool, cotton, silk, polyester, etc. are unable to meet the increasing demand for aesthetics, comfort, healthcare and industrial applications. Functional fabrics possessing antibacterial, anti-wrinkle, dyeing, antistatic and other special properties have received broad attention in the textile industry and fashion world. Chitosan is a product obtained by deacetylation of chitin, which is widely distributed in nature (e.g. shellfish, insects and certain fungi). It has multiple applications in the biomedical and other areas due to its characteristics of excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability, ecological safety, non-toxicity and its versatile biological effects such as antibacterial, antifungal, antitumor act...
