Use of Moringa (Moringa Stenopetala) Seed Extract for Removal of Some Anionic Dyes (Direct and Reactive Dyes) in Textile Wastewater - Juniper Publishers

Image
Journal of Fashion Technology -  Juniper publishers Abstract With textile wastewater being one of the most sources of pollution containing higher value of colour, BOD, COD and several pollutants, brings serious problem to the ecological environment. This study is particularly focused on evaluating the efficacy of removal of dyes such as reactive dyes, direct dyes, mixture of dye wastes and mixture of industrial and dye wastewaters by the natural absorbent Moringa. The seeds of the Moringa tree contain a coagulant protein that can be used in the treatment of industrial wastewater. The extracts of seeds (coagulant) obtained by two methods viz. simple extraction with distilled water and with saline water have been used for the study. The effect of some operating parameters on coagulation namely pH, coagulant dosage, mixing time, colour removal and turbidity was studied. It was observed that the colour removals in direct red and reactive red dyes are 94.45 and 98.4% respec...

Application of Chitosan for Peripheral Nerve Repair - Juniper Publishers

Image
Journal of Fashion Technology -  Juniper publishers Abstract Regeneration and repair of peripheral nerves, as a prevalent medical problem was not satisfying and complete. This clinical problem is in accompany with loss of innervation in arms or legs, leading to the loss of motor and sensory function. Although, this problem is not lifethreatening, impose socio-economical pressure on individual and society. The worst case of a peripheral nerve trauma is the total disruption of the nerve (neurotmesis), which requires realignment. Chitosan, a natural polysaccharide, synthesized from chitin which is abundant in shrimps and crabs skeleton. Chitosan has excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability can be used as nerve conduit material. The purpose of this work was to study the ability of chitosan and some chitosan-derived materials to promote behavioral, functional and histological assessments in peripheral nerve regeneration and repair. Here, we mentioned the investigations...

Textiles in Tissue Engineering -A Review of Some Significant Trends - Juniper Publishers

Image
Journal of Fashion Technology -  Juniper publishers Abstract The article provides useful insights on some recent and significant trends in the role of textiles in tissue engineering. Textile scaffolds can be found in a variety of application areas in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering. In the present study we used electrostatic flocking-a well-known textile technology-to produce scaffolds for tissue engineering of bone. Flock scaffolds stand out due to their unique structure: parallel arranged fibers that are aligned perpendicularly to a substrate, resulting in mechanically stable structures with a high porosity. The benefits offered by microfibrous scaffold architectures fabricated by textile manufacturing techniques are discussed. The problems related to the development of biomaterial fibers (especially from nature-derived materials) ready for textile manufacturing are addressed.
